The Boston Red Sox are not having the kind of season they hoped for, and the latest injury update on Garrett Crochet only makes things worse.
On Friday, Crochet talked with reporters and suggested that it is unlikely for him to return before the All-Star break. The left-hander will have to essentially restart his rehab process after suffering a lat strain. The Red Sox ace said, "it would be really rushing" for him to come back before the Midsummer festivities.
Crochet initially landed on the injured list due to shoulder inflammation following his six shutout innings on 25th April. After a month of rehab, when the left-hander was moving towards facing live batters, he suffered a lat strain that has kept him shut out from throwing activities so far. With the injury lingering, the Red Sox have transferred him to the 60-day injured list.
Crochet's latest injury update is a massive blow for the Red Sox, who are troubled with an injury-riddled, disappointing season already.
With Brayan Bello also not pitching well, the Red Sox are operating without quality arms, and this could hurt the franchise, which is already 12.5 games behind in the AL East. Their offense doesn't look like improving anytime soon, and with the trade deadline approaching, there is a lot of uncertainty about where the franchise will stand in terms of competitiveness.

When Red Sox ace Garrett Crochet could return
Crochet is "getting closer to throwing," but feels bad about how the two injuries came together, leaving him out for so long. After the All-Star break, the Red Sox would hope to get Crochet back into the rotation, potentially in the series against the Tampa Bay Rays.
After two stellar seasons back-to-back, the Red Sox extended the two-time All-Star on a new six-year, $170 million contract. However, the southpaw has struggled in his limited appearances this year, pitching to a 6.30 ERA in six starts.
Crochet will hope to improve his poor season and hopefully provide his best in the second half so that the Red Sox can still be in contention for a postseason spot.
