NASCAR's Carson Kvapil was told not to do a burnout on IMS bricks; he did it anyway

· Yahoo Sports

INDIANAPOLIS – After almost three seasons of close calls, Carson Kvapil won the Pennzoil 250, the NASCAR O'Reilly Auto Parts Series (NOAPS) race at Indianapolis Motor Speedway for the first NOAPS win of his career. The emotional victory led Kvapil to do something that is looked upon poorly at the iconic speedway.

In his celebration of the win, the JR Motorsports driver did a burnout on the Yard of Bricks, leaving a tire skid on the bricks. NASCAR's in-car communications reminded Kvapil and his crew not to do so, although he still did.

Whether drivers should be allowed to do a burnout on the bricks has been a hotly debated topic for years, most recently after Justin Allgaier did one following this same race in 2018. When Allgaier did it in 2018, IMS president Doug Boles said it took "too much" effort to remove the burnout rubber from the bricks in reply to an X post.

When Kyle Busch did a burnout after winning the NOAPS (then Xfinity Series) race in 2015, IMS officials reached out to him with their displeasure, and Boles said, "There's three feet of racetrack there that we ask 'don't do it' on." Busch won the Brickyard 400, NASCAR's Cup Series race, the next day, and did his burnout away from the Yard of Bricks.

IMS does what it can to preserve the current strip of bricks, which have acted as the track's start/finish line since 1961, and burnouts make that mission more difficult. Kvapil's burnout surely won't please the track officials.

Where is the 2027 WNBA All-Star Game?

· Yahoo Sports

The 2026 WNBA All-Star Game held at the United Center in Chicago on Saturday, July 25 set an attendance record for the league’s event, drawing 19,783 fans to see Team Spoon defeat Team Coop behind Jonquel Jones’ near-triple-double effort.

Fans might be wondering: Where is the 2027 WNBA All-Star Game?

Perhaps the folks in WNBA leadership know, but the league’s players and the wider public do not. Not even Nneka Ogwumike, the president of the WNBA Players Association.

“I don't know what the process is. We find out with you guys,” Ogwumike said while speaking with reporters after the game. “So, that's something that can change maybe. I think also, when we see the growth of these teams, we see the valuation of these teams, maybe we can make bidding a little bit more competitive for All-Star.”

This year marked the second time in five seasons that Chicago has hosted the All-Star Game. Las Vegas, Phoenix and Madison Square Garden have each hosted three times, while the WNBA has taken the game to Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut four times.

Ogwumike, an 11-time All-Star and forward for the Los Angeles Sparks, said the players would like to see the game go to one of the new cities in the league.

“I do know that, from what I'm hearing from players, they want to see one in Golden State,” Ogwumike said. “So, I think that that would be a good place to be, especially with all these expansion teams, giving these cities an opportunity to host people as they enter this league.”

Last season — their first in the WNBA — the Golden State Valkyries led the league in average attendance, drawing 18,064 fans per game. In May, Sportico reported that the Valkyries were the most valuable WNBA franchise with a valuation of $850 million.

The Valkyries play at the Chase Center in San Francisco, which opened in 2019 as the home of the NBA’s Golden State Warriors.
