Indore (Madhya Pradesh): A project intended to ease traffic on one of Indore’s busiest commercial stretches is currently adding to the daily chaos for commuters. The heavily delayed construction of the six-lane Satya Sai Square flyover from Vijay Nagar towards Satya Sai Square has narrowed movement space at several points, while potholes, waterlogging, roadside parking, and pedestrian encroachments are compounding the problem.

The impact is most visible during the evening rush, when vehicles parked along the roadside from Vijay Nagar to Satya Sai Square and vice versa create bottlenecks.

Instead of a clear passage around the construction zone, commuters are forced to navigate between barricades, parked vehicles, damaged road patches, and moving traffic.

For two-wheeler riders, the combination is particularly risky. Potholes filled with water from construction work can hide the true depth of damaged sections, while sudden lane changes by motorists trying to avoid construction barriers increase the risk of collisions.

Pedestrians are facing a separate but equally serious problem. Encroachment on footpaths and roadside parking have reduced walking space, forcing people closer to traffic.

At a junction surrounded by offices, shops and other commercial establishments, the lack of a continuous pedestrian passage is raising questions about whether traffic planning has kept pedestrians in mind.

A security guard working at a bank in the area, on anonymity, said, “Roadside parking is one of the biggest reasons for congestion. The situation becomes much worse on Tuesdays when devotees visit Panchmukhi Hanuman Mandir in the evening and traffic piles up.”

Shopkeepers said the disruption is also hurting businesses. “Customers face problems finding parking, and vehicles are often parked in front of shops and building entrances. This affects customer movement and business,” a shopkeeper said.

A corporate employee working nearby said the construction is affecting the workplace environment as well. “Dust and noise from the construction remain a major problem. The disturbance is particularly noticeable during working hours.”

“We understand that the flyover is being built to improve traffic in the long run, but there has to be a safer temporary arrangement until the work is completed. Commuters cannot be left to manage barricades, potholes and parking on their own,” Ayushi Dhurve, working at an office on the way said.

For thousands using the Vijay Nagar-Satya Sai corridor, the issue is no longer simply about temporary inconvenience. Every badly parked vehicle, uncovered pothole, and blocked pedestrian path adds another layer of risk to a road already carrying heavy traffic.

"The work started late, and got delayed due to the busy road, because of which piling and other work got affected. Only 30 per cent of the work is left. We have targeted completion by December this year. "

এবার অস্কারে বাংলাদেশের প্রতিনিধিত্বের জন্য মোট পাঁচটি সিনেমা জমা পড়ে: নূরুল আলম আতিকের ‘মানুষের বাগান’, মেজবাউর রহমান সুমনের ‘রইদ’, রেদওয়ান রনির ‘দম’, মোহাম্মদ তাওকীর ইসলামের ‘দেলুপি’ এবং মনিরুল আকাশ হকের ‘দ্য ইউনিভার্সিটি অব চানখাঁরপুল’। প্রাথমিক বাছাইয়ের পর চারটি সিনেমা বিবেচনায় আসে। সেখান থেকে চূড়ান্তভাবে বাংলাদেশের সিনেমা হিসেবে নির্বাচিত হয় ‘রইদ’।

বাংলাদেশের হয়ে অস্কারের আন্তর্জাতিক মঞ্চে যাওয়ার খবরে আনন্দিত নির্মাতা মেজবাউর রহমান সুমন। আজ দুপুরে প্রথম আলোকে তিনি বলেন, ‘অনুভূতিটা ভালো, আনন্দের। কারণ, এটা আমাদের গল্প, আমাদের এই অঞ্চলের গল্প। আমাদের এখানকার সংস্কৃতি ও চিন্তার ভেতর দিয়ে গল্পটা এগিয়েছে। সিনেমা শুধু বাণিজ্যিক দিক থেকে দেখার বিষয় নয়, এর একাডেমিক ও নান্দনিক দিকও আছে। “রইদ”-এর মাধ্যমে আমরা সেই অভিজ্ঞতা দেওয়ার চেষ্টা করেছি।’

কথা প্রসঙ্গে সুমন আরও বললেন, ‘একটা সময় অস্কারে বাংলাদেশ থেকে যাওয়ার মতো ছবি সেভাবে ছিল না। বেশ কয়েক বছর ধরে ভালো মানের ছবি অস্কারে বাংলাদেশের হয়ে প্রতিনিধিত্ব করছে। এটা বাংলাদেশের সিনেমার জন্য একটা আশার দিক বলে মনে করছি। একটা সময় হয়তো বাংলাদেশ এর সুফলও হয়তো পাবে।’

‘রইদ’ মূলত সাধু ও তাঁর স্ত্রী পাগলির সম্পর্কের সরল অথচ গভীর আখ্যান। প্রেম ও নীরবতার মধ্য দিয়ে মানবজীবনের চিরন্তন এক আদিম প্রেমের গল্প তুলে ধরা হয়েছে সিনেমাটিতে। সিদ্দিক আহমেদ, মেজবাউর রহমান সুমন, জাহিদ ফারুক ও শুকর্ণ শাহেদ ধীমানের চিত্রনাট্যে নির্মিত ছবিটির গুরুত্বপূর্ণ দুটি চরিত্রে অভিনয় করেছেন মোস্তাফিজুর নূর ইমরান ও নাজিফা তুষি।

অস্কারে ‘রইদ’ নির্বাচিত হওয়ার প্রতিক্রিয়ায় অভিনেত্রী নাজিফা তুষিও মনে করেন, এই যাত্রা বাংলাদেশের সিনেমার জন্য নতুন সম্ভাবনার দুয়ার খুলতে পারে। এখন অপেক্ষা অস্কারের চূড়ান্ত মনোনয়ন তালিকার।

অস্কার বাংলাদেশ কমিটির সাত সদস্যের মূল্যায়ন ও আলোচনার ভিত্তিতে সিনেমাটি নির্বাচন করা হয়েছে। কমিটির চেয়ারপারসন জহিরুল ইসলাম। অন্য সদস্যরা হলেন সাজ্জাদ শরিফ, শাহীন দিল-রিয়াজ, রাশেদ জামান, অপি করিম, সাইয়্যিদ শাহজাদা আল কারীম ও শাহরীন আক্তার সুমি।
