Kalani Sitake on BYU’s resources entering 2026 season: ‘My agent is going to handle all of that stuff’

Kalani Sitake is not going to worry about the resources BYU does or doesn’t have entering the 2026 college football season. While speaking with reporters on Wednesday, the BYU head football coach was asked how he feels about the team’s NIL, recruiting budgets, and facilities heading into the new year.
“My agent is going to handle all of that stuff.” Kalani Sitake said, per Jackson Payne of Desert News. “I’m gonna focus on this year’s team. As long as I’m the head coach here at BYU, I’m going to always fight like crazy to get this place so they can be a premier program. I feel like the players deserve that, and the coaches and staff deserve it; most of all, Cougar Nation deserves it.”

The comments come after Sitake called for more resources and investments in the football team. In 2025, the Cougars went 12-2 and reached the Big 12 Championship game, where they fell to Texas Tech. Sitake realizes that for BYU to compete with top teams in the country and make a championship run, having more resources is essential.

“I said before, I don’t want to be the highest bidder,” Sitake told CougarSports’ Ben Criddle July 30. “But I’d like to have access to stuff like that, and that’s a reminder to the administration of that you can count on us to do things right and be responsible with the finances to get the right program in place. Sometimes, you kind of go through these things. You’re like, ‘Okay, this is going well.’ And I’ve always just been appreciative of everything. But then, when I look back at it, and my agent tells me, ‘Hey, this is the stuff that everybody else has.’ … It just gives me a whole different appreciation for them.”
Earlier this week, BYU hired Marc Hill to be the school’s deputy athletic director. Hill, who spent 27 years at Kentucky, will oversee various administrative and operational efforts with the athletic program. On Wednesday, reporters asked Sitake about the addition of Hill.
“I don’t know him personally, but I know that he has a great reputation,” Sitake said. He’s been in the business for a long time, so you know he brings some experience and wealth of knowledge from the SEC. We will take all the help we can get in our department.”
