Warner shared his perspective on the risks of rushing their star quarterback back onto the field alongside his own injury story.

“I suffered the exact same injury back in ’07, and I played the next week,” Warner said.
He added, “Because it’s the left arm, if he wants to play through that, I believe he can. It’s not going to be one of those things that affects the throwing part of things. Does it affect his moving, does it affect his running, or some of the things they wanted to do by design? Maybe. But I do believe this is something he can come back from.”
Warner was a pocket passer. Daniels depends on designed runs and movement, so the same recovery plan may not fit. A brace can protect the elbow, but Daniels still has to absorb contact and make plays with his legs.
Warner recalled bracing the injury, taking injections, and using his right hand for handoffs. Washington has also lost left tackle Laremy Tunsil and another offensive lineman, Codney, to injury. That protection issue makes Daniels’ return decision harder.
Dual-threat style and offensive line concerns complicate Washington’s next move
Daniels’ running ability made him one of Washington’s biggest offensive weapons last season. That strength also makes his elbow recovery harder to judge because a pocket passer can limit movement in ways Daniels cannot. The latest injury update gave Washington relief on the fracture question.
The Commanders must also review their protection plan before making a decision. There are offensive line issues around Daniels’ injury and the team may need to consider a backup plan if Daniels cannot move freely or protect the elbow under pressure.
