Rams' Puka Nacua, Alaric Jackson avoid commissioner exempt list for now

On Sunday, each team in the NFL has to trim its roster down to 53 players and for teams around the league, as they navigate what their team will look like, they also have to consider the status of each player.

Multiple players have been put on the NFL commissioner's exempt list, including Packers running back Josh Jacobs and Broncos edge rusher Jonathon Cooper. That designation prevents players from participating in team activities such as practices, other than attending meetings, workouts, and treatments at the team facility. It's the NFL's version of paid leave, while players deal with various circumstances and proceedings that could result in a suspension, due to a potential violation of league policy.

Los Angeles Rams offensive superstars Puka Nacua and Alaric Jackson were subject to be added to the list, due to their current legal situations following offseason incidents.

However, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that Nacua and Jackson will not be placed on the list before the roster cut-down deadline, while the league continues to examine their situations.

Both are still eligible to be added, or suspended by the league, but the fact that they will not be added now means both players will count against the team's 53-man roster. If they were added to the commissioner exempt list, they would have a roster spot, but it would not count against the team's numbers until they're removed from the list.

As a result, the Rams are currently avoiding losing two of their best players for the season-opener next week.

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell is the only person who can add players to the exempt list.

Bucks' Brayden Burries, Nate Ament join teammates at offseason run

Milwaukee Bucks rookies Brayden Burries and Nate Ament were among the players on hand at a recent team workout at St. Edward's University in Austin, Texas.

Burries and Ament were pictured alongside much of the roster, including Tyler Herro, Jaime Jaquez Jr., Kyle Kuzma, Gary Trent Jr., Ryan Rollins, Myles Turner and Kel'el Ware, among others. Turner hosted the group as a former Longhorn and Texas native.

With the Bucks undergoing a drastic overhaul after trading Giannis Antetokounmpo, the session was likely one of the first opportunities for the team to be together on the court, giving them a chance to begin building chemistry before training camp opens next month.

Burries was the 10th overall pick in the draft after averaging 16.1 points, 4.9 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 1.5 steals last season at Arizona. He debuted with the Bucks in summer league, averaging 23.5 points, four rebounds, 3.6 assists and 1.6 steals in five games.

Ament, the 13th overall pick, was selected to the All-SEC second team at Tennessee last season, averaging 16.7 points, 6.3 rebounds, 2.3 assists and one steal. He averaged 11.2 points, 4.8 rebounds and 1.4 assists while shooting 38.9% from 3-point range in five summer league games.

Burries and Ament arrive in Milwaukee, expected to help usher in a new era following the departure of Antetokounmpo. The Bucks have been pleased with their recent changes and are hopeful to have a strong 2026-27 season.
