The heat is on.

After a slow-to-warm June in Toronto, the heat and humidity came in like a lion on Monday and are expected to last all week, including Canada Day.

Environment Canada says Monday’s high was expected to be 29ºC but will feel like 32ºC with the humidex, with mostly sunny skies with a mix of clouds before Monday night’s 40% chance of showers overnight with risk of a thunderstorm.

By Tuesday, it really begins to get humid with a 32ºC high but feeling like 41ºC with the humidex and a mix of sun and cloud with a 40% chance of showers and risk of a thunderstorm.

There will also be wind on Tuesday, becoming southwesterly at 20 km/h gusting to 40 late in the morning.

On Canada Day, the high is 35ºC with a mix of sun and clouds but feeling more like 43ºC with the humidex, and a 30% chance of showers at night.

We don’t get heat relief until Sunday.

Highs in the low to mid-30s to continue Thursday, Friday and Saturday and the heat, relatively speaking, finally leaves on Sunday with a high of 28ºC.

Last week, Toronto cops said July 1 will see “large crowds throughout the day and evening, particularly for the city of Toronto’s f ireworks display at Ashbridge’s Bay. “.

Toronto Police Supt. Dave Correa said there will be “a significant police presence in the area, including officers on foot, bicycles, ATVs, and horseback.”

“Bylaw officers will also be on site throughout the day and evening. Our focus will be public safety. We will be monitoring crowd dynamics, their activities, keeping emergency routes clear and responding to any issues that may arise. Unsafe or unlawful behaviour will not be tolerated.”
